Fingerstyle Rumba for Beginners

Easy Chords in A minor

Hey guys I hope you are having a fantastic weekend and you finally got time to practice some guitar stuff.

Today I am going to show you a very useful exercise I called “Fingerstyle Rumba” that will help you improve your plucking speed, control and musicality. Also, you will learn an awesome chord progression in A minor that sounds super Spanish.

The goal is to use this chord progression as well as the rumba rhythm to create a beautiful sounding melody mixed with chords.

There are two things that you will need to focus on when practicing this exercise.

The melody is actually played with the thumb. This is kind of unusual as we usually play the melody with the fingers. It will take a while for you to master this approach so take it step by step.
The fingerstyle rumba rhythm follows a repetitive patterns. Familiarize yourself with the 123 123 12 rhythmic pattern using on chord only. The 1 is always played with the thumb, the 2 with the middle finger and the 3 with the index finger.

I really love the Spanish Rumba and I believe that practicing this fingerstyle rhythmic pattern will help you improve your fingerstyle technique a lot.
