Take few mins to read the page. It will help you understanding the purpose of the Lesson !!

Hello Guys and welcome back. Today I am going to show you how to play a Rock Solo with the Pentatonic Scale in the key of B minor. I wrote this solo couple of months ago while I was practicing on some ideas. Then, I decided I wanted to use it for a tutorial so I ve grouped the solo in 8 Bars. Before we get into it, let me post the Video Tutorial where I play this solo at 0:20. You will see on the top-right screen saying Take one/ Take two, that means I have recorded the solo twice and posted two takes … Thank you for watching Guys, let me know if you like this lesson.

Pentatonic Rock Solo in B minor. PentaTrip

This solo use many different Techniques and Approaches. The Techniques involved are:

  • Vibrato
  • Bending
  • Slide
  • Legato
  • Alternate Picking
  • Box Connection
More Solos??? Let me take you to the Lab !

How Difficult...

Vibrato 30%
Bending 33%
Slide 10%
Legato 37%
Alternate Picking 35%
Box Connection 40%
Overall Difficulty 50%

To me, the hardest Technique in this solo is the “Box Connection”. Being able to connect two or three different position is not an easy task especially with the Pentatonic Scale, mainly used Vertically in one position then Horizontally. Check out bar number 3/4 and 7/8 for this technique. Practice Slow !! Improve your Legato Technique by practicing bar 5/6. I love three notes licks, this one reminds me Sultans of the Swing by Dire Straits.

Please make sure you take care of your tendons. Some of this techniques (legato and bending) can be dangerous for your hands. Worm up for 10mins before starting this solo and practice everything really slow for 15mins before speeding up.

The Backing track and Tab are available below. Thank you for Watching !!
