In this first Bending Exercise, we gonna learn how to bend the string and get the right pitch. Trust me, you want to get this exercise right. There is nothing worst than hearing a guitarist playing a wrong bending.

How do we make sure we get the right pitch? As you will see in this exercise we are going to play the note that we are about to bend, before we bend it!! I know it sounds weird. Check out the Video Tutorial and learn how to practice this quite useful exercise. Enjoy!!

Key Point:

  • Work on your pitch. Make sure you get it right!!
  • The thumb will help you bend the string with accuracy. You must learn how to place the thumb. Check out the video tutorial.
  • If you have any pain or a itchiness in your left forearm stop the exercise and rest for at least two days. If the pain is still there, you should see a doctor. Usually the bending is a quite friendly technique, but because you are pulling the strings, sometimes, your forearm can overstretch.
  • Practice this exercise for no more that 5mins. Increase the time after two weeks.

Bending Technique Video Tutorial.

Just couple of things about the Chord Progression used in this solo. The Rhythm is based on a 3/4 time signature. You will be counting one, two, three, one, two, three … The Chords I am using are:

G  –  D  –  G       C  –  Em  –  D

Notice that there is a little gap between the G and C major and that’s because you want the G major (third chord) to last a bit longer.

I am using a Boss Loop Station called RC2. The drum comes from the pedal to. If you really want to practice solos, I would highly recommend to get one of this pedal. It’s amazing how you can easily record a backing track and create solos and exercises.
